Dunbar Confirms $60,000 School Safety Grant for Penn Trafford School District
10/9/2018
PENN TOWNSHIP – Rep. George Dunbar (R-Westmoreland) today announced that a targeted school safety grant totaling $60,000 has been awarded to Penn Trafford School District.

“As Vice Chairman of both the House Appropriations and Finance Committee, I am delighted to see real state budget dollars being invested in high-priority school safety initiatives,” said Dunbar. “This funding will go a long way toward ensuring that our schools are able to affordably and flexibly provide the safe and secure learning environment that meets the expectations of students, their parents or guardians, as well as the faculty and staff.”

The grant program, funded through the state budget, assists schools with paying for programs to prevent and reduce violent incidents in schools, purchase safety and security-related equipment, and provide for the training and compensation of school resource officers (SRO) and school police officers (SPO).

Dunbar noted this grant program is separate from a new $60 million School Safety and Security Grant initiative created by the General Assembly earlier this year. The deadline for schools to apply for those grants, which are being administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, is Oct. 12.
