Dunbar Selected for House Republican Deputy Whip and Deputy Policy Committee Chairman
HARRISBURG -- State Rep. George Dunbar (R-Westmoreland) will serve as both a deputy House majority whip and deputy Policy Chairman during the 2013-14 legislative session after being appointed by Pennsylvania House Majority Whip Stan Saylor (R-York) and House Majority Policy Chairman Dave Reed (R-Indiana).

“I am humbled and honored by these additional responsibilities our leadership team has bestowed upon me to serve both the Republican Caucus and my constituents,” said Dunbar. “The relationships I have built on both sides of the aisle during my first term of legislative service will help me relate to my fellow colleagues and unite us for the common cause of putting taxpayers and job creators first.”

Dunbar recently met with Republican Whip Saylor and the other appointed deputy whips to discuss the group’s priorities for the upcoming legislative session. As deputy whip, Dunbar will be called upon to handle a variety of House floor responsibilities, including helping to monitor floor attendance, assisting in obtaining accurate vote counts and communicating caucus positions prior to House floor debates.

Dunbar was also selected to serve as a deputy chairman of the House Majority Policy Committee, which takes a broader study of policy issues impacting the Commonwealth.

“I am greatly looking forward to having the opportunity to pursue comprehensive policy reforms at the ground level, said Dunbar. “In fact, many of the welfare reform and job creation initiatives that were implemented last session originated in the House Republican Majority Policy Committee.”

In addition to these new responsibilities, Dunbar will also serve on the following standing House committees Children and Youth, Finance, Gaming Oversight, and State Government.
